Alleged bank robber shot dead

JAKARTA (JP): A bank robber has been shot dead earlier this week for resisting arrest near the Kampung Rambutan bus terminal in East Jakarta.

Central Jakarta Police Chief, Lt. Col. S.Y. Wenas, said that on April 2, Padol, 23, had attempted to rob Haris Hanafi of the Rp 130 million (US$55,193) he had just withdrawn from a bank on Jl. Irian in Menteng.

Lt. Col. Wenas confirmed the Tuesday-night incident when Padol was shot in the head.

"We have hunted him for weeks," Wenas said on Wednesday.

Padol was a resident of Jl. Kampung Intan, Johar Baru district, Central Jakarta.(04)
