All ID cards to be computerized

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency has said it will finish computerizing Jakarta ID cards issued by all subdistricts across the city by the end of this year.

Agency head Sylviana Murni said on Thursday that each ID card would have a unique bar code, which would "enable us to detect fake ID cards".

The computerized ID system will be made available at every municipal population office.

The agency started to use computerized ID cards in 2002 across 43 subdistricts. In 2003, an additional 152 subdistricts began using the system and this year, the remaining 72 will follow suit.
