'Al-Fayed' loves smelly 'pet'

WONOSOBO, Central Java (JP): He has a rich colored shiny coat, lounges anywhere he likes but has a weakness for the lowly pet (flat beans notorious for their offensive odor), despite his name associated with the rich and famous.

This is Al-Fayed the feline, resident of Pagerejo village, Kertek district of Wonosobo. The owner, farmer Samiadji, says his wife was annoyed when Dodi, their daughter's boyfriend, broke her off at whim.

He decided to name their cat Dodi Al-Fayed after the late close friend of Diana, Princess of Wales, infamous for his playboy-like inclinations. "But he felt uneasy knowing how his wife and daughter felt, and used the surname instead," a relative said.

Al-Fayed meows for anything that anyone is eating: rice crackers, vegetables, pet and fruits and demands his share of carresses with purrs and sharp claws.

A fellow inhabitant with which he has cool relations is Panther, the dog, who mostly glances at the cat and his comforts from outside the door. (anr)
