Al-Faruq's wife seeks Kontras' help

JAKARTA: The wife of terrorist suspect Omar al-Faruq, Mira Agustina, asked on Monday the Commission on Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) to assist in the return of her husband, who is currently being detained by the U.S. government.

She claimed to have no knowledge of the terrorist allegations against al-Faruq. "All I know is I need my husband to run the household and to raise our two kids".

Mira was accompanied by lawyers Eggi Sudjana and Irwan Rasyid in.

Eggi expressed apprehension about the cooperation with Kontras in filing lawsuit against the U.S. and Indonesian governments, in particular the Indonesian State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

Munir said Kontras would ask President Megawati Soekarnoputri, the foreign ministry and the justice and human rights ministry to clarify the case, including the search, arrest and detention not in compliance with the country's laws.

"Even in fighting terrorism, we cannot ignore the protection of human rights," he said. --Antara
