Akbar upbeat about Golkar's future

BANJARMASIN: In the wake of a successful performance in this year's legislative election, Golkar leader Akbar Tandjung is upbeat the party will repeat the feat by winning the 2009 general election.

Akbar said on Monday that despite the presence of numerous political parties, Golkar stood out as a party that was well- managed and sensitive to the people's aspirations.

"It is the political parties with these characteristics that will win elections," he said.

Golkar was the top vote-getter in the legislative election and secured 128 seats in the House of Representatives. However, the party's presidential candidate, Wiranto, failed to make it past the first round of the presidential election. -- Antara
