Airline company gets bomb threat

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Malaysia's Pelangi Airways has received a bomb threat over plans to resume its Banda Aceh-Kuala Lumpur- Penang flights on Friday, Nov. 28, Antara reported.

"The provincial administration of Aceh regrets the incident, which has also caused us harm," head of the provincial tourist office, Ramli Dahlan, said here yesterday.

Dahlan said an anonymous letter received by Pelangi Airways threatened that its planes would be exploded if it insisted on landing at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport here Friday.

He said investigations are underway to determine whether the letter was sent from here, Medan or Pekanbaru, which Pelangi Airways also serves.

Dahlan said he hoped the airline would not be affected by the threat, which he said was made by irresponsible people.

He added that the provincial government has sent the airline a letter assuring its safety in Aceh.

Pelangi Airways opened the Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Banda Aceh route in November 1994 but stopped serving it last September due to the lack of aircraft.
