Aircraft firm signs deal to repair engines

JAKARTA (JP): Aircraft engine maintenance company PT Nusantara Turbin dan Propulsi (NTP) will repair up to 30 Tay jet engines this year as part of a five-year contract signed with Brazilian airline operator MTU-TAM.

The company's president, Eddi Susilo, said in a press statement on Tuesday that according to the contract, the jet engines would be repaired at a cost of about US$1.5 million per unit.

He said two of the engines had already been repaired and sent back to Brazil last Friday.

Eddi said NTP, a subsidiary of the Bandung-based state-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia, formerly known as PT Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN), also expected to receive a similar order from Iran.

Tay engine, one of jet engines manufactured by Rolls Royce, is used in Fokker 100 and Fokker 70 airplanes.

NTP also has the authority to overhaul airplane engines such as Allison A250 for NBO-105 helicopters and Allied Signal Garret TPE 331 for NC-212 aircraft.

"Our company has received a number of certificates from international institutions, including FAA (United States), ATO (Phillipines), DGCAM (Oman), DCA (Malaysia) and DAC (Brazil)," he said, adding that NTP had also received certificates from engine manufacturers such as Rolls Royce, General Electric and Pratt & Whitney.

The company expects to receive a certificate from JAA (Europe) this year, he added. (03)
