Aid for victims of violence

NORTH ACEH, Aceh: The Indonesian Red Cross, supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), began on Wednesday distributing basic commodities to victims of violence in the province.

A media release by the international body said the aid program targeted 589 villages throughout 26 districts in North Aceh regency. The same assistance will also be sent to victims of violence in Pidie and East Aceh regencies.

A fact-finding team established by the North Aceh administration has made a list of those to receive aid, including women who lost their husbands to violence, orphans, handicapped people and victims of rape.

The three provinces were sites of military operations between 1989 and 1998, where military atrocities took place. (01)
