JAKARTA (JP): Maj. Gen. Ahwil Lutan, governor of the Police Academy, is likely to be appointed the new deputy chief of the National Police, a senior officer said on Monday.

A date for the transfer of duty has yet to be set.

"Pak Ahwil will most probably be appointed National Police deputy chief soon," National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Erald Dotulong said.

"Before taking his post as governor of the Police Academy, he was assigned to coordinate the National Police chief's staff of experts, and previously he was secretary to the National Central Bureau of Interpol Indonesia."

A graduate of the School of Law at Pancasila University, Ahwil took his master's in business administration at Gregorio Areneta University in the Philippines.

His police education included studying at Drug Enforcement (DEA) Administration School in Washington, the U.S., Senior Police Management Training at Bramshill Police College in Britain and the Narcotics Law Enforcement School in Tokyo, Japan.
