Ahmad Yani airport to be upgraded
SEMARANG: The Central Java administration has agreed to upgrade Ahmad Yani airport to an international level due to the increasing number of tourists here.
"Governor Mardiyanto has given his approval and sought advice on the required preparations for the project," Soebroto, chairman of a communication forum dealing with the airport development, said on Wednesday.
The province already has an international-standard airport in Surakarta, some 120 kilometers southeast of here.
Soebroto said the organization proposed the need to improve the airport's infrastructure and facilities, including custom and immigration services.
The recent data reveal that 295,200 foreigners visit the province annually, half of them spend their time in its capital Semarang. (har/08)
