AGO hunts for convicted banker
JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office is trying to locate the former director of the now-defunct private Bank Servitia, David Nusa Wijaya, who was sentenced to one year in prison for misusing Rp 25.6 billion in state liquidity support funds.
Attorney General Office's spokesman Barman Zahir said on Wednesday the search started when the Jakarta High Court ordered state prosecutors on May 20 to execute a lower court's previous ruling to put David in prison.
"The convict failed to come to the West Jakarta Prosecutor's Office for execution of the sentence. We searched his residence, but he was nowhere to be found. We have asked the Jakarta Police and the West Jakarta Police to help," Barman said, adding that the convict had not been declared a fugitive.
State prosecutors detained David during the investigation, but the West Jakarta District Court ordered his release one week after the case was submitted to the court.
Prosecutor N. Farela had demanded a four-year sentence.
David was not immediately taken to prison because he filed an appeal with the high court.--JP
