AG office frees two suspects
JAKARTA (JP): The Attorney General's Office has freed two suspects, Leo Tanubarta and Kaharuddin Ongko, in the corruption case concerning Bank Indonesia's liquidity support for Bank Umum National (BUN), a private bank owned by the Ongko Group.
Kaharuddin was freed because he suffered from epilepsy, which required him to undergo intensive medical treatment, Antara quoted the office's spokesman, Muljohardjo, as saying Monday.
Leo was freed because, as the president director of PT Bank Umum Nasional, he was needed in the company to settle the debts of its subsidiary PT Giani Wiruda, which is now under the supervision of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA).
The spokesman noted that, although they had been freed, their case concerning the abuse of some Rp 5 trillion from Bank Indonesia's Bank liquidity support fund was not closed. "It has only been postponed," he said.
