African nationals caught with heroin

JAKARTA (JP): City Police detectives shot dead on Thursday evening an African national and arrested two others for trafficking and possessing heroin.

City Police chief of detectives Sr. Comr. A. Rochana said a suspect identified only as Tetra, 35, was gunned down for resisting arrest during a raid on his rented house in Pasar Baru area, Central Jakarta.

The raid followed the arrest of two Africans in a hotel room in the Tanah Abang area, also in Central Jakarta, for possession of 50 grams of heroin.

Rochana said the suspects, Eddi, 31, and Enggeni, 32, had been staying at the hotel for the past month. During questioning the two admitted to receive the heroin from Tetra.

The officer said that after receiving information about the suspects from Tanah Abang residents, he ordered his men to go undercover and try to buy heroin from the suspects.

"At first, the suspects were not sure whether to trust the undercover police officers, but finally they led the officers to their room, where the deal took place. My officers immediately arrested the two men."

Rochana said that police were now trying to find out if the African suspects had links to other drug dealers in the capital. (ylt)
