Worldwide shoppers to join HK Shopper of the Year Contest

Worldwide shoppers from at least 17 countries, including Indonesia, are expected to join the 2005 Hong Kong Shopper of the Year contest in Hong Kong. The contest, part of the 2005 Hong Kong Shopping Festival, will be held in Hong Kong on July 19, 2005.

Winners of the contest will be announced on July 20, 2005. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), which is organizing the contest, said that its annual Shopper of the Year contest was designed to highlight Hong Kong as a well-established shopping destination.

HKTB said that this year's contest theme is "Discover the Shopping Fun in Hong Kong".

The contest requires each participating team consisting of two participants to purchase one item from each of the 2005 Hong Kong Shopping Festival shopping themes, namely 'Fashion and Beauty', 'Jewelry and Watches', 'Consumer Electronics' and 'Chinese Traditions'.

HKTB said further that each team would be given a digital camera to capture their shopping moments. "The photos of shopping will be participated in a competition and the best team will receive the newly introduced Photo Award," it said.

Meanwhile, the HKTB, in cooperation with The Jakarta Post, is organizing an essay-writing contest to provide an opportunity for winners to join the 2005 Hong Kong Shopper of the Year contest.

The contest kicked off on June 19 (today) and will be close on June 26, 2005. Winners of the contest will be announced on June 28, 2005.

The prize for the essay-writing contest includes two return economy class air tickets from Jakarta to Hong Kong, four day and three night stays in a hotel, airport/hotel/airport transfers - Hong Kong International Airport - Hotel - Hong Kong International Airport.

HKTB said that each competing pair will be given a Shopping Information Pack and shopping money amounting to HK$3,000 for the competition.

"Participants are required to write about Hong Kong, and what they want to see and buy in Hong Kong if there is Hong Kong Shopping Festival," said HKTB.

The essay, written in English, must be half a page in length and in A4 format, and no more than 300 words.

The essays must be submitted to The Jakarta Post via fax, email or post before June 26, 2005.

Participants must be residents of Indonesia aged 20 years or over and excluded staff and immediate family members of Hong Kong Tourism Board as the contest prize sponsor and The Jakarta Post as contest promoter.

Participants are also required to be able to speak English and have a passport.

HKTB says that the first valid entry drawn from all entries which met the stipulated conditions, will win a trip for two people to Hong Kong to participate in the 2005 Hong Kong Shopper of the Year contest.
