JAKARTA (JP): The City Administration will renovate five state

which are owned by the city.
The buildings to be renovated are junior high school SMP
Negeri 138 on Jl. Pahlawan Komaruddin in Pulo Gebang, East

The plan to renovate the is based on gubernatorial decree No.
88/1995, dated Feb. 1, 1995.
The decree states that the six buildings will be completely
demolished due to their poor condition. New buildings for the
same purposes will be constructed on the same sites.
The decree also states that the head of the City Facility
Office as well as the head of the City Restoration and Building
Arrangement Office are responsible for the implementation of the
renovation projects.
No information is available on the amount to be spent on the
project.
Facilities
In a related development, Sri Umi Soetjipto, a councilor of
the City Council's Commission E in charge of social welfare
affairs, reported yesterday that the new buildings will be
equipped with modern education facilities, ranging from
laboratories to libraries.
She urged the City Administration to properly coordinate all
related offices involved.
"Students constitute the country's most important assets for
future development and we must pay much attention to their
education process. Please work to prevent the renovation works
from disturbing the students' concentration," she said.
Councilor Ratih Ratna Purnami from Commission D in charge of
development affairs said that the new buildings could be set up
in other sites if the current locations are no longer considered
appropriate.
"But the city administration would have to choose suitable
locations not on disputed land areas," she added.
She urged the city administration to not repeat what happened
wtih the SMP Negeri 43 school building in Mampang Prapatan, whose
land was claimed by a local resident, resulting in a long
dispute.(32)
