Administration to cut 2,000 jobs

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: The East Kalimantan administration is likely to terminate the contracts of 1,949 temporary employees (PTT) on June 31.

The termination follows Government Regulation No. 8/2003 on regional civil servants, which stipulates the streamlining of local administrations.

The move will be unwise because most of the employees have been working for the provincial government for five to 15 years, PTT Union coordinator Faturahman said here on Monday. -- JP
