Adiguna's case file returned to police investigators

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The city prosecutor's office returned the case file of suspected killer Adiguna Sutowo to the Jakarta Police on Thursday as the documentation of evidence in the file was insufficient.

The police had filed the report on the fatal shooting of Yohannes Berchmans Haerudy Natong alias Rudy -- at the Fluid Bar in the Hilton Hotel in Central Jakarta early on New Year's day -- with the prosecutor's office a week ago.

"The office wants us to complete this case file within 14 days, which I think we can do," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said on Thursday.

"We have to work based on the four guidelines provided by the prosecutors. These guidelines will be used for completing the file," he said.

According to Tjiptono, the prosecutor's requirements could easily be met.

He declined to go into detail on the required evidence.

Attorney General's Office (AGO) spokesman Soehandoyo said that several documents, which should have been attached to the case file by police investigators, had been missing from the report.

"Those requirements consist of documents, including the court's decision on confiscation, the court's warrant for investigation, and the document on the possession of a firearm," he was quoted as saying by Detik.com.

Soehandoyo added that prosecutors had also asked the investigators to obtain more comprehensive statements from experts on ballistics and forensic analysis.

Adiguna Sutowo, a brother of the major shareholder in Hilton Hotel, Ponco Sutowo, has been charged under Article 338 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years' imprisonment, and Article One on Emergency Law No. 2/1951, which carries the maximum death sentence.
