Adiguna case file submitted to court

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The Jakarta Prosecutor's Office submitted to the court on Friday the case file of businessman Adiguna Sutowo, who is accused of the shooting death of a waiter at the Hilton Hotel's Fluid Bar after a New Year's Eve party.

Prosecutor Danu Sebayang said the court would soon schedule the first hearing of Adiguna's case, which would likely be held "in two weeks at the latest".

Prosecutors are charging the younger brother of Ponco Sutowo, who owns a major share of the Hilton Hotel, with the murder of waiter Yohanes "Rudy" Berchmans Haerudy Natong, as well as the illegal possession of a firearm.

Adiguna is being charged under Article 338 of the Criminal Code on murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

He also is charged with violating Emergency Law No. 12/1951 for the illegal possession of a firearm, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Separately, the Jakarta Police said they would follow up on lab tests performed by the National Police's forensic unit that found illegal drugs in Adiguna's blood and urine at the time of the crime.

"We will follow up on the reports of drug use," said Sr. Comr. Carlo Brix Tewu, the director of the Jakarta Police's narcotics division.

Police said at least 15 witnesses, including key witness Novia "Tinul" Herdiana, who was with Adiguna at the time of the shooting, told the police that Adiguna pulled the trigger.

Adiguna is now being detained at Salemba Prison in Central Jakarta.
