Acquisition angle

I would like to make the following comments on Kwik Kian Gie's remarks on Salim Group's acquisition plan published in this paper (Salim group urged not to shift assets overseas, July 21, page 1).

* The answer to Kwik's question in the last paragraph is yes, it is proper to prioritize nationalism in business in the current era of globalization. This is becoming more important in the present borderless time.

* In this case, we also have to realize that in the beginning the Salim Group's growth was fully supported by the Indonesian government. The presence of Salim Group here is Indonesia's pride. As it is now a "giant," is it fair for Salim to become part of a Singapore company just for the "high exposure to the international market"?

Besides, if the acquisition plan is realized, has the Salim Group taken into account the impact it may have on the business climate in Indonesia?
