Aceh's radios back on air
JAKARTA: Five private radio stations in Aceh have resumed broadcasting after the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami that damaged most of their equipment.
"We've been back on air since Jan. 18. We're currently occupying a room inside Baitulrahman mosque since our office was leveled by the tsunami," Arida, a radio presenter with the Baitulrahman radio station, said on Friday.
Of the five stations, Assyifa, Suara Aceh and Muhammadiyah are new and only started to broadcast programs after the tsunami, while two other stations (Prima and Baitulrahman) have been in Aceh for a long time.
Arida said the stations needed to resume operations immediately in order to provide entertainment for the Acehnese people. --Antara
