Aceh policewomen to wear veils

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Aceh Police chief Brig. Gen. Bachrumsyah ordered local policewomen on Monday to wear veils to show the police's support for the Law on Aceh's Special Autonomy which was passed last month.

The order was issued by Bachrumsyah during a ceremony at the provincial police headquarters, Antara news agency reported. The veils' are the same color as the brown police uniforms.

Bachrumsyah said the order applied to all policewomen and female civilians who worked for the Aceh Police.

Bachrumsyah said in a speech that he hoped all 119 policewomen on the provincial police force could serve as role models for the implementation of Muslim teachings in Aceh.

The provincial administration has obliged female state employees to wear veils and knee-length skirts. (02)
