Accidents on Jakarta-Tangerang tollway drop

TANGERANG: The number of traffic accidents on the Jakarta- Tangerang toll road drastically dropped this year.

Data from the information center of PT Jasa Marga's Tangerang branch showed that there were only four accidents with no fatalities during the seven-day period of the Idul Fitri celebration.

"The number of traffic accidents along the toll road dropped significant compared to last year," Heriyadi, an officer at the Jasa Marga information center, said on Thursday.

He said in the past 11 days, there were only five traffic accidents involving private minivans at kilometers 5, 9, 11 and 14, adding that only two victims suffered serious injuries while 10 others were slightly injured.

Seven victims were taken to Al-Qadar Hospital, one was taken to Siloam Glenagles Hospital in Karawaci and two others were taken to Gramedika Hospital in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.

Heriyadi said that the accidents were caused by driver carelessness and poor conditions of their vehicles.--JP
