Accident kills worker

A section of the 13th floor of the World Trade Center building, still under construction in Mangga Dua, West Jakarta, collapsed without warning on Thursday, killing one construction worker.

Another worker was severely injured in the accident, while four others were only slightly injured.

The deceased, Kemisan, 32, was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. The body was later taken by relatives to his hometown in Jepara, Central Java, for burial.

The injured workers were taken to Sunter Agung hospital in Sunter, North Jakarta.

Witnesses said the cause of the accident, which occurred at 10:30 a.m., was due to a deteriorating concrete column supporting the floor.

The area has been cordoned off while the Pademangan Police investigate the case.

Construction workers resumed work shortly afterward on the building, which is being constructed by PT Murindo Tata JO. --JP
