ABRI and the legislature
To question (once again) the presence of ABRI (the Indonesian Armed Forces) in the House of Representatives is essentially to question the validity of ABRI's dual function. In a democratic system questioning things is accepted. However, being a state based on law, ABRI's functioning as a social-political force is guaranteed and regulated by law.
With increasing globalization it is not impossible that the challenges to our ideological resilience and the Pancasila-based system and Constitution will grow. In facing those challenges ABRI -- which has been proven by history never to have deviated from Pancasila and the Constitution -- is called upon to maintain its vigilance.
In our opinion it is this need for vigilance which requires that ABRI maintains its presence in the House of Representatives.
