Abortion case suspects quizzed

BANDUNG: Three suspects in a case allegedly involving over 500 illegal abortions in Bandung are being questioned by police to find out if they were linked to a criminal ring.

After having been held at the Central Bandung police station, the three, a physician, a nurse and the owner of a clinic, were turned over to the Bandung City Police on Friday.

Yayasan Klinik Mitra Sejahtera, the Bandung clinic believed to have facilitated the abortions, has been cordoned off by police since Tuesday, the day police raided it.

"We will investigate the case more thoroughly in order to establish a possible connection with a certain criminal ring, for which witnesses and concrete evidence are required," Bandung's chief of detectives said.(25)
