Abortion 2

I am writing in response to the letter written by Mei (April 30, 1997).

I would rather call Ade Juniarti a responsible woman than a courageous one, since she took responsibility for what she did after she became pregnant and had the baby.

I fully agree with Mei, sexual intercourse with somebody who is not your husband is illegal and religiously intolerable. The unmarried pregnant woman should marry the man. However, I entirely disagree with Mei, if a woman has to abort her pregnancy as a result.

Let me put it this way. Having premarital sexual relations is wrong, but the unborn child is innocent and has the right to live. People who mock or blame the decision to keep the child are foolish. If you abort your pregnancy, then you have made two mistakes. The first mistake was when you had premarital sex. The second is killing a human being (a living embryo), which equals murder. Do you support murder, which is clearly banned both by religious practice and state law? Your recommendation to have an abortion just because the mother was unwilling to raise the baby is unfair and inhuman.

I think support is obtainable. God will always bless people who make an effort to seek it.

From a medical point of view, abortion isn't healthy either, and can be quite dangerous. An abortion damages the uterus, due to the unnatural process. As a well-educated person, I think you know what the process involves.

Basically, it depends on everyone to make a decision. If you don't want to have a child out of wedlock, you shouldn't engage in premarital sex (which is both sinful and illegal). To prevent this problem from growing, religious understanding and devotion are absolutely essential.
