Abolishing poverty

Merdeka (Sunday, May 25) surprised people by publishing an article titled 'Serahkan pengentasan kemiskinan pada saya' (Let me carry out the program of poverty abolishment). Businessman Probosutedjo seemed to have a great intention to abolish poverty in the country.

Probosutedjo also believes the poverty abolishment program has so far not brought about satisfactory results. He is right in this respect and there is no need to cover up the drawbacks.

Probosutedjo is apparently very concerned about the lives of the unfortunate, who are seeking a better life. They desperately need help. In fact, he is one of millions of Indonesian citizens who has deeply sympathized with the poor and called on the government to entrust him in the program of poverty abolishment. This is a very noble idea. Obviously the government should welcome this gesture as a positive move.
