A portrait of city trying to restore normalcy

Residents of Tasikmalaya are trying to restore normalcy in their town after the violence of last Thursday. These photos show aspects of life in Tasikmalaya over the weekend (starting top left and moving clockwise). Female students of the Riyadhul Ulum Wadda'wah Moslem boarding school look over their balcony. Officials inspect a gutted Roman Catholic church, one of 13 prayer houses razed by rioters. Hi-fi, sets seized by soldiers military from looters, are on display at the town's military command office. Workers clear debris from outside an electronic shop. Traders hawk their trumpets at a strategic corner of the town's center, hoping to catch New Year's Eve revelers. Students of a Moslem boarding school help troops clean up graffiti, some of which included inciting slogans, although some had already been painted over by house owners during the riot, in the hope that their property would be spared.
