A murder suspect declared

JAKARTA (JP): Police found strands of hair in the fingernails of Sarah, who was killed along with her three-year-old son on Thursday night, in their rented house in Kampung Gunung Utara, Ciputat subdistrict, South Jakarta, an officer said.

South Jakarta Police detective chief Capt. Rycko Amelza Daniel said on Saturday that the strands "most probably" belonged to Sani, a security guard at the house who is now at large.

"I'll have to wait for results from the National Police forensic laboratories to say for sure. But Sani is definitely the main suspect," Rycko told The Jakarta Post.

"On the night of the murder, Sani was living at his friend's house. We found Sani's undershirt there, soaked in the female victim's blood. We also found the pants he wore that night at his friend's house. We can't tell you his friend's name, or where he lives."

Sarah, 33, was found dead in the bathroom with wounds to the left side of her neck, left jaw, right breast and to the back of her head, while Aldo, 3, was found next to his bed with a slash wound to his neck.

A daughter, Dini, 2, is being treated for a lower jaw fracture at Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta.

Rycko said all the evidence appeared to indicate that the dead woman had been raped. He also said that the victims must have been well-acquainted with the suspect, as there were no signs of forced entry at the house.

"He might have tried to rape Sarah. She resisted and fought him, and in doing so, she pulled his hair. After killing her, the blood was splashed all over his shirt," he said."(ylt)
