A dangerous precedent

The Islamic contact group assigned to end the Serbian aggression on Bosnian Moslems and the Western contact group, notorious for its flagrant bias towards the Serbs, are expected to hold a meeting soon.

Russia, along with a number of Western states, has a proposal envisioning that Bosnian Serbs join a confederation with the Serb Republic.

Bearing in mind that the Serbs now control some 70 percent of Bosnia's territory, the confederation proposal is only meant to illegally 1increase the territory of the Serb Republic.

Such expansion will be at the expense of Bosnia which is an independent U.N. member state.

Implementation of the proposed confederation plan will set a dangerous precedent in international relations.

Under the U.N. charter, it is not permissible to annex territories seized by force even if the occupiers are, legally speaking, part of the country subject to aggression.

It is no secret that the Serb Republic has been providing arms to the Serb militia in Bosnia who have mounted a massive war against Bosnian Moslems for the past three years, with the U.N. standing idly by.

The Serb Republic is still a staunch supporter of Serb rebels in Bosnia.

Therefore, the Islamic contact group is urged to stand firmly against any plan to dismember Bosnia.

Moslems have various cards by which they can protect Bosnia, including breaking economic ties with the countries backing the marauding Serbs.
