A Christmas full of peace and love

Gaily lit Christmas trees and colorful decorations sparkled in most public places as Christians celebrated Christmas.

People from all walks of life got dressed up in their best clothes to mark the day with prayer at their local churches. A strong police presence at the locations, due to the violence- marred celebrations of recent years, did little to dampen the spirit of the season.

Jakarta residents of all faiths got to enjoy less crowded traffic and the special discounts at malls. Far from the chillier climes of his homeland, Santa Claus came to town, giving out gifts and posing for photographs with kids at shopping centers.

It was a decidedly merry, and safe, Christmas after all.
