A bomb victim dies at hospital

JAKARTA (JP): One of 14 people injured by Wednesday's bomb blast under the Slipi flyover, West Jakarta, died on Saturday from serious wounds in his body and head at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) emergency room.

The victim, Togar Budi Marpaung, a 23-year-old street vendor, was one among four other people Samadi, 29 and Sarmin, 30, Andi Lala, 16 and Romadon, 13, who were hospitalized for their very serious injuries resulted from the bomb shrapnels.

An explosive device believed to be a bomb blasted under the flyover in, injuring a total of 14 people, who all survived soon after the blast.

Quoting witnesses, police assumed that the explosive device was thrown by people in a truck crossing the flyover.

Togar's father Holomoan Marpaung, 50, told reporters at the hospital's morgue said that he was not aware that his son was a street vendor, one of the bomb victims.

"Police officers told me on Wednesday night that Togar was one of 14 people injured in the bomb. I was surprised as they said that my son was a street vendor operating at the Slipi intersection area."

"A week after his mother Nurhaida Siahaan, 46, scolded him, Togar, our second child of three, left home and stayed with his fellow in Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta. That was I knew," Holomoan recalled.

Togar's body would be buried at Rawamangun public cemetery in East Jakarta today (Sunday). (01)
