8,000 trucks jam Bakauheni

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Six of the 14 ferries serving the crossing between the ports of Bakauheni, Lampung, and Merak in West Java have broken down, causing about 8,000 trucks to be stranded.

The trucks, many of them carrying perishable produce such as fish and fruits, formed a 10-kilometer tail-back as they waited to cross over to Java on the remaining ferries, Antara reported on Saturday.

Head of Bakauheni port Suwarno was not available for comments. Other officials have also declined to reveal what caused the ferries to break down. (swe)
