8 Indonesians awaiting trial in U.S.

JAKARTA: Eight Indonesians are still detained in separate locations by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) of the United States for immigration offenses.

An official from the Indonesian Consulate in New York, Daulat Pasaribu, said three of them had been detained at the INS office in New Jersey.

All of them had overstayed their visas.

They were supposed to go on trial last Thursday but this was delayed due to the absence of an interpreter. The trial was adjourned until March 17.

An information official at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. disclosed that four Indonesians had been detained in San Bernadino County, Santa Ana County, and Tucson County in California.

The detainees were given 120 days to prepare for their return to Indonesia. -- Antara
