8 councillors grilled over corruption

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Officials at the Kendari prosecutor's office began questioning on Wednesday eight councillors for their roles in an alleged Rp 1 billion (US$ 105,263) corruption case.

Last week, prosecutors declared that 22 councillors from the Kendari municipal council were suspects in case in a Rp 1 billion corruption scandal.

Among the eight councillors being questioned on Wednesday were Heruddin Pondiu, the chairman of Kendari municipal council and Achmad Hasan, the deputy chairman. -- JP
