71 high-ranking officers awarded promotion
JAKARTA (JP): Seventy-one high-ranking officers from the Armed Force's four service branches were promoted on Friday.
Dressed in their respective unit uniforms, the military officers reported their new ranks to Minister of Defense and Security/Armed Forces Commander Gen. Wiranto at Merdeka Barat Headquarters in Central Jakarta.
The ceremony was part of a leadership reshuffle in the Army, Navy, Air Force and National Police last June and changes in tours of duty last August.
Seven two-star generals received a third star. They included Commander of the Armed Forces Staff and Command School Lt. Gen. Johny J. Lumintang, Jakarta Governor Lt. Gen. Sutiyoso, Armed Forces headquarters' senior officer Lt. Gen. Luhut Panjaitan and Commandant-General of the Armed Forces Academy Vice Adm. Abu Hanifah H.
Also promoted to three-star generals were Deputy Air Force Chief of Staff Vice Marshal I Gede Sudana, Armed Forces' Inspector General Vice Marshal Tamtama Adi and Deputy National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Nana Permana.
The Army also promoted 10 brigadier generals to major generals, while 13 colonels moved into the general officer corps as brigadiers. They included Assistant for Sociopolitical Affairs to the Armed Forces Chief of Sociopolitical Affairs Maj. Gen. Sudi Silalahi, Chief of the Presidential Guards Maj. Gen. Suwandi, Assistant for Territorial Affairs to the Army Chief Maj. Gen. Suprapto and Chief of the National Military Police Corps Maj. Gen. Djasri M.
Also included were Deputy Chief of the Presidential Guards Brig. Gen. Surjanto, City Garrison Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Albert Inkiriwang and Deputy Chief of the National Military Police Corps Brig. Gen. Iding Alidin.
The Navy elevated one commodore to rear admiral, 12 captains to commodores and one Marine colonel to brigadier general. They included Navy Military Operations Commander Rear Adm. Djaelani and Chief for Intelligence Operations of the Armed Forces Intelligence Agency (BIA) Rear Adm. Muljo Wibisono.
In the Air Force, five commodores advanced to rear marshal positions, while 15 colonels rose to commodores. They included Armed Forces' Senior Officer Rear Marshal Budhy Santoso, Air Force First Fleet Commander Rear Marshal Suprihadi and Commander of the Air Force Staff and Command School Rear Marshal Sonny Rizani.
Also included were Air Force elite troops Commander Commodore Nanok Suratno and Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base Commander Commodore Teddy Sumarno.
Four police brigadier generals were promoted to two-star generals, while three colonels rose to one-star generals. They included Maj. Gen. Dasoeki, Maj. Gen. Ali Hanafiah and Brig. Gen. Paiman. (imn)
