670 die in traffic accidents in C. Java
SEMARANG, C. Java: Police said here yesterday that up to 626 traffic accidents in Central Java had killed 670 people up to October this year.
Central Java Police Chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman said as many as 389 people had been seriously injured and 803 others slightly injured in the accident.
Financial losses reached Rp 1 billion (US$285,000), while the police recorded 253,469 traffic violators.
The number of deaths is equivalent to two to three deaths a day, lower than last year's data, he said.
"(Learning from the figure) police won't hesitate to take strong actions against reckless drivers who endanger other people's lives," he said. (har)
