65 soldiers sacked this year

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: As many as 65 soldiers under the auspice of the Wirabuana Military Command have been sacked for various reasons this year.

Quoting records made from January to November, chief of legal section Capt. Rasyid told reporters here on Thursday that the 65 officers were among 150 soldiers punished by the military tribunal for different offenses.

"Some of them were involved in serious crimes, some of them were found guilty in swindle cases and some of them were dismissed for desertion," Rasyid said.

"There are 179 cases waiting for verdict from the military tribunal, 21 of which involving high-rank officers."

The harsh punishment to its members was the evidence that the Army would not condone or protect unscrupulous personnel. (27/sur)
