6,065 vehicles impounded
The City Land Transportation and Traffic Control Agency (DLLAJ) has impounded at least 6,065 public transport vehicles from January to August this year for various violations.
The head of the agency, J.P. Sepang, announced on Thursday that the large number of vehicles impounded indicates that the implementation of the 1992 traffic law has not improved motorists' discipline.
"This is because the law is not enforced to the fullest," said J.P. Sepang as quoted by Antara news agency.
The article No. 14 of the law, which was first introduced in 1993, provoked criticism for and against among citizens due to the new rates of traffic fines.
Sepang said the most frequent violations motorists commit includes parking in forbidden places and disregarding traffic signs. (yns)
