600 bus licenses revoked

The South Jakarta's Transportation Agency has revoked the licences of 600 public Metromini and Kopaja minibus drivers and altered routes in a bid to order services and reduce congestion in certain areas.

Agency head Nubun Buntaraga said the operation licenses had been in use for more than 10 years and would be replaced with new licenses.

"The drivers or owners of the minibuses can get the licenses free of charge at our agency," Nubun was quoted as saying by www.beritajakarta.com on Friday.

It was scheduled that as of Monday, of the 600 public vehicles, 480 will serve new routes along Jl. Iskandarsyah, Jl. Melawai, Jl. Bulungan, an Jl. Kyai Maja before entering the Blok M bus terminal.

Meanwhile, the other 120 will have to pass Jl. Panglima Polim and Jl. Barito 2 before entering the Blok M terminal.

Nubun said his agency made the changes following a three-month evaluation. --JP
