60 infected with HIV/AIDS in Maluku

AMBON, Maluku: As of November this year, some 60 Maluku residents were infected with HIV/AIDS, while another 10 people had died of AIDS-related causes.

Ristanto Sugiono, head of the Maluku provincial health office, said that of the 60 people, 49 were infected with HIV and the remaining 11 had full-blown AIDS.

"We are monitoring them," said Ristianto.

Ristianto said HIV/AIDS in the area was the result of drug use and prostitution.

Most of those infected with HIV/AIDS in Maluku are between the ages of 20 and 40. -- Antara
