54,400 porn VCDs seized at port

JAKARTA (JP): Tanjung Priok Port Police arrested a 38-year-old Jakartan in possession of 54,400 pornographic video compact discs (VCDs) when she arrived at the port from Batam Island on Monday afternoon.

Port police chief Lt. Col. Edward Aritonang identified the suspect as Yusnawati, who carried the materials on the Sinabung that docked at the port on Monday at 2 p.m.

"You people should read the titles of the VCDs. There was Pengantin Baru (Newlyweds), Atik, Gadis dari Ancol (Atik, the Virgin from Ancol) and Rasain Goyangnya (Feel the Shaking). They gave me such a laugh," Aritonang told reporters.

Pornography is banned but adult VCDs and sexually explicit magazines are easily available in many cities and towns.

Aritonang said the arrest was made during the police Kilat Jaya routine operation on Monday.

He added that the operation netted 141 hoodlums and ticket scalpers, a man with three kilograms of marijuana and seven people carrying sharp weapons. (ylt)
