500 officers guard City Hall

JAKARTA: Public Order Agency officers are guarding City Hall around the clock for fear of retaliatory attacks following the shooting death of gang member John Albert on Friday night.

Agency head Soebagio said on Sunday he had no plan to move about 500 public order officers from City Hall on Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan until the gang Albert belonged to retracted its threat to attack City Hall.

"The officers will continue to guard City Hall because the threat from Hercules' gang is serious. So far, they have damaged at least two vehicles they thought were owned by the Public Order Agency," he told The Jakarta Post.

Hercules is the leader of the gang to which Albert belonged.

Albert was shot by a public order officer on Wednesday on a plot of disputed land in Kuningan, South Jakarta. He died in the hospital on Friday night. --JP
