500 grade schools have no clerks

BANTUL, Yogyakarta: All 500 elementary schools in Bantul regency have no administrative staff to support their daily operation.

"The absence of administrative staff at the elementary schools is a serious challenge for the local administration to improve the quality of education in the regency," Regent Idham Samawi said in a coordination meeting here on Tuesday.

He stated that only 20 percent of the elementary schools had their own library that could meet the minimum standards.

He conceded many parents had sent their children to high schools in the provincial capital of Yogyakarta because of the poor state of high schools in the regency. -- Antara
