5-second siren on Environmental Day
JAKARTA (JP): The city will turn on a siren for five seconds at 9 a.m. in the Glodok area of West Jakarta to commemorate Environmental Day today, an official said.
The city's spokesman, Kamaludin S., said that at the same time city officials would also examine air quality in the business area.
In his press release Kamaludin did not say why Glodok was chosen for the occasion.
Other activities include disseminating environmental information to the public.
Several other activities would also be held as part of Environmental Day, such as the cleaning up of city markets, Kamaludin said.
Among markets to be cleaned up were Tanah Abang and Senen markets in Central Jakarta, Rawa Badak in North Jakarta and Tebet Timur market in South Jakarta.
Kamaludin said the city would also clean garbage from several rivers, including the Cipinang and Krukut rivers. (ste)
