480 kgs ganja destroyed

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta Police destroyed more than 480 kilograms of dried marijuana on Thursday.

The marijuana was seized from locations across the capital during an antinarcotics operation the police launched in October.

The police also destroyed 338.2 grams of heroin and 7.9 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine).

Police officers seized on Wednesday some 1.3 tons of dried marijuana and arrested five suspected drug traffickers in Kembangan Selatan, West Jakarta.

Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Mulyono Sulaiman, who witnessed the destruction of the drugs, said Wednesday's seizure and arrests could help police uncover an important drug distribution network.

"It's impossible that these guys were just (ordinary) dealers, with 1.3 tons of dried marijuana," Mulyono said. (jaw)
