46 vagrants arrested in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Public order officials of the Bogor administration have netted 46 vagrants in an operation on major roads in the city, an official said yesterday.

Hari Harsono, the administration's spokesman, said 46 people, aged between five and 65 years old, were netted in a joint operation on cleanliness and public order on Monday on major roads, including Jl. Juanda, Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Pajajaran.

"They were sent to the City Social Services office. After being briefed, they were allowed to go home on Tuesday," he said.

Out of 46 vagrants, 24 were Bogor residents and the remainder came from Indramayu, Cirebon, Sukabumi, Tangerang and Cianjur, all in West Java, he said.

Those from other cities were asked to return to their hometowns, while others from Bogor were urged to join a training course on how to improve livelihood skills sponsored by the social services office, he said.

"If they go back to their old ways and are arrested again, they will be sent to rehabilitation centers in Bandung and Cirebon," Hari said.

Last week 33 people, including 18 prostitutes, 14 transvestites and one frequent red-light district visitor, were also arrested in a similar operation. (24/hhr)
