45 foreigners arrested for drugs

JAKARTA: Police revealed on Thursday they had arrested and detained 45 foreigners suspected of trafficking drugs, mostly heroin, to Jakarta.

The foreigners were mostly from Nigeria, Zimbabwe and other African nations, and some were from Iran, Sr. Comr. Andi Chaerudin said. In total, Andi said, police managed to seize around 12 kilograms of heroin from the alleged drug traffickers. He did not mention finding any other type of drug.

On Thursday, 5.2 kilograms of the heroin, worth Rp 2.6 billion, was destroyed. Andi said the heroin was seized from three suspects: Kholisan Nkomo of Zimbabwe, and Michael Titu Igweh and Hilary K. Chimezie, both from Nigeria. The three were arrested at Villa Melati Mas, Serpong, in late August. --JP
