4,000 families miss cash aid

TANGERANG: The Tangerang Regental Council called on the local branch of the Central Statistics Agency to reregister low-income families in the regency, following reports that some 4,000 poor families had not received the cash assistance.

"We demand that the BPS include 4,000 low-income families on the list of recipients of the government's cash assistance," speaker of the Tangerang Regental Council Endang Sujana was quoted by Antara as saying on Sunday.

He said that the Tangerang Regental Administration proposed the inclusion of 158,009 families to receive direct cash assistance of Rp 100,000 per month.

But, BPS only registered 154,607 families on its list.

According to Endang, the poor families lived in the districts of Rajeg, Kronjo, Kresek, Mauk, Sepatan and Pakuhaji.

"BPS should immediately reregister poor families to prevent social unrest," said Endang, who said that the disbursement of the funds had caused jealousy among the people because not all poor families received the money.

Previously, Regent Ismet Iskandar made a similar statement, saying that there were still poor families that had not received the cash aid.
