400 workers sent home through Belawan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Around 400 Indonesian migrant workers, were sent home by the Malaysian government through Belawan port on Tuesday morning.

The return was the second batch after Malaysia sent home 280 workers on June 2.

North Sumatra Governor T. Rizal Nurdin said that the workers would stay at a shelter before being returned to their hometowns. He also called on the central government to help in transporting the workers to their hometowns as the funds at the provincial social welfare office would not be adequate to finance their return.

Data from the provincial manpower office showed that around 98,000 workers were to be sent home by the Malaysian government. -- JP
